+Media - If a tree falls in the forest ..
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
This philosophical thought experiment raises questions regarding how we perceive and observe our environment. This thought defines the role of media in the world we live in, it not only communicates events but crafts the reality that we perceive.
Before becoming a full time painter, I thrived in the media world and witnessed three major revolutions. Starting with print revolution of the eighties, we progressed to Television, and finally arrived the Internet in the nineties. The twenty first century changed the paradigm and set the stage for the social media.
Every person, with the mobile and internet could become a broadcaster. An one could go from being virtually unknown, to becoming celebrity after making a statement or two, if they caught people’s fancy and went viral. Proving the truth of Andy Warhol’s prediction of “Ten minutes of Fame for everyone”, the media is still evolving, and may still go through many more revolutions.
For Art Noor, media has been a terrific feedback loop and a record keeper of my evolution as an artist, in a somewhat biographical way. I had the opportunity to interact closely with very talented media writers, who have a keen eye and were sensitive to the art and the emotions that they evoked. The probing questions which were asked, at times, were a great provocation for the soul searching, that I had to indulge into to come up with what felt like honest answers, at that point of time. Looking back, I might improvise some of the things I said, but it just proves the point of our being a shade of grey. Nothing is absolutely final. Like the quantum theory has unravelled a metaphysical fact. Things change by the way you look at them.
I look forward to continuing the dialogue, with writers, bloggers, and other intellectual adventurers, to engage and co- create the new paradigm of Mind over Matter.
